LIFE UPDATE; I’m engaged!

Just a super quick update outside of my normal scheduling to let you know that I’m engaged! My boyfriend of 5 years asked me to marry him on Christmas Eve and I couldn’t be happier!

A lot of you who follow me on twitter will probably already know I’m engaged, but I wanted to do a more formal post about it because I’ve seen a few others do this kind of post and I love reading them. We’re planning quite a long engagement, as I want to wait until the end of uni so we are thinking around 3/4 years from now. But we will probably start planning in a few months as even that isn’t massively far away!

The one thing I did just wanna mention is the backlash I got for my engagement. This is a happy post and I don’t want to make it anything else, but to be honest I am absolutely disgusted that I shared the news of my engagement on my twitter to be indirectly tweeted about by many many many different bloggers saying how ‘tacky’ it is because it was on Christmas Eve. I literally spent the night of Christmas Day crying because of what I was reading. I should have been happy and some certain bloggers ruined this experience for me. No matter what your opinion is, keep it to yourself. It’s unfair to upset someone anyway, never mind to try and ruin something that they have waited a long time for, are excited about and want to celebrate! I really am just so disgusted with the behaviour I saw and I will never forgive some bloggers for that.

But other than that small negative, I’m super happy and I just wanted to share it with you all!

Normal scheduling resumes today at 5. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and an amazing 2017!

Love,

H x

Blogmas Day 21- My Favourite Christmas Adverts 2016

Hello! Today I’m going to be counting down my favourite Christmas adverts this year! Ok, here we go…

5. Aldi

Although maybe not as meaningful as the rest, I love the style of the Aldi advert and it gives me a good giggle!

Watch it HERE

4. Waitrose

I am not ashamed to say I teared up at this. As for many people, robins hold special significance for me and that gets heightened around Christmas time. Although I’m not sure of the message, this advert definitely got my heart.

You can watch it HERE

3. Sainsbury’s

Although the animations on this make me feel a little queasy, the song is incredibly catchy and the message is so touching! Well done Sainsbury’s, you’ve done good this year!

Watch it HERE

2. John Lewis

Every single year the style and message of the John Lewis adverts makes them my favourite. Although I do love this years (and don’t agree with all the negativity it has received) it is just beaten by M&S for me. Sorry John Lewis, I still love you and Buster the Boxer!

You can watch it HERE

1. M&S

I LOVE the M&S advert this year, they have sleighed! (See what I did there?)

This advert makes me so happy. The brother and sister remind me of me and my brother and I love the message and I love Mrs Claus! If you haven’t seen it yet, you can watch it HERE

So that’s it for this year’s adverts! Thanks for reading, see you tomorrow!

Love,

Blogmas Day 12- Top Ten Christmas Films

Alright, this post is gonna be really really hard for me to write because I’m a total film lover and I also love Christmas so, for me, it doesn’t really get much better than Christmas Films!

(Some of these have joint films for the places, because I like way too many films to restrict it to 10 so just had to go over!)

Let’s go in reverse order..

10. Home Alone

The original! I love this film and it reminds me so much of my childhood. I watch it every year without fail and it will always be one of my favourites, I just may have watched it one too many times for it to get any higher in this list!

9. The Santa Clause

This film just reminds me of being at my grandparent’s house watching films on a Sunday afternoon, who doesn’t love Tim Allen in The Santa Clause?

8. Miracle on 34th Street

If there is one Christmas film that reminds me of my childhood, it is this one! To be honest, I don’t really tend to watch it an awful lot now because of major overkill, my mother likes to watch Christmas films and only Christmas films from Halloween onwards, but this will always remain one of my favourites just because of the memories it holds.

7. Nativity

I bloody love this film! It has the perfect balance of comedy, cute children and brilliant songs… It’s just fab!

6. The Muppet’s Christmas Carol

Who doesn’t like the muppets? Your answer better be nobody! This film is musical, which makes it even better, and is just purely fun and light-hearted, with a spot of seriousness. It adds a new, fun, dimension to Dickens’ classic and warms my heart every time.

5. Home Alone 2: Lost in New York

And before you shout at me, yes I do like the sequel better than the original, but that might just be to do with the setting! New York is the ultimate setting for any Christmas film and just adds a bit more magic to the story for me.

4. The Holiday

Obviously this is much more of a film that I’ve loved as I’ve grown up, as it’s not particularly for kids, but I love the Holiday. It’s funny, it has great actors, and it has a brilliant storyline- who could possibly ask for more?

3. Love Actually

And another film for the adults! I wanted to watch this film all of December last year but could not find it on Sky, Now TV, Netflix or Amazon Prime (yes, we have them all) and was so gutted! So my boyfriend ordered it for my especially, so now I can watch it whenever I like!

3. The Polar Express

Sharing the number 3 spot with Love Actually is this children’s classic! I actually remember going to see this film at the cinema when it first came out with my parents and brother, so this holds particular special memories for me. I love the magic in this film mainly, who doesn’t love magic?

2. Elf

Ah and we are into the top two (or three in this case because I cannot decide between these ones!). Buddy the Elf is the ultimate Christmas icon for me, I just love Elf. No matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old!

2. It’s A Wonderful Life

And sharing the number 2 spot with Elf, is this ultimate Christmas classic! It’s A Wonderful Life is just so heartbreaking and heartwarming, so wholesome and pure, it just encompasses everything that, to me, Christmas is about, and I could never get bored of watching this film. It’s a Christmas must-watch every year!

1. The Grinch

And number one…. The Grinch!

I love the Grinch and I always have, for as long as I can remember, but I don’t really know why. I don’t have any particular reasons for it being my favourite, it’s just always the last Christmas film that I watch every year on the evening of Christmas Eve (as well as the hundreds of times throughout December) and it’s always the one that makes me feel the most Christmassy!

Thank you for reading Blogmas Day 12, let me know your favourite Christmas films in the comments!

Lots of Christmassy love,

H

Blogmas Day 9- A Letter To Santa

Dear Santa,

I hope you are well! I cannot believe how fast this year has gone and that it’s almost time for you to visit again! This Christmas, I would like to request a few little things for the year to come.

Firstly, please look after all of my friends and family. Please keep them happy and healthy and remind me to show them I love them a little more often.

Secondly, please give the world peace, even if only for the Christmas period.

Thirdly, please make sure all of the children of the world are as happy and healthy as possible and keep them safe from illness, hunger, dehydration and any other harm that may come to them.

Please let all of the people without a home find one this Christmas, even if only for the night. Nobody deserves to be alone at Christmas, please ensure nobody is.

Santa, I know I’m asking for quite a lot, but I’m hoping that you can make my wishes come true because I don’t know who else to ask. This world is becoming an insanely scary place and all I want is for everyone in the world to be happy and healthy and safe.

Thank you for bringing so much joy to so many children Santa,

Love,

H X

Blogmas Day 4- Gift Guide For Him

Hey there!

It’s day 4 and this post is a gift giving guide for him- whoever he may be!

For your partner

For my boyfriend, I like to do a stocking full of small novelty gifts, socks, undies, smellies and sweets that I know will make him happy. This also keeps me happy as it gives me lots to wrap and lots to buy for small amounts, I try not to go over £10 per item for the stocking but this can be easily changed and adapted to suit your own budget! I love asos for this!

I then get my boyfriend what I like to call his ‘main present’. Usually, I like to gift my boyfriend an experience of some kind, whether this be a weekend away, a day trip or an experience, for example one year I paid for us both to go indoor skydiving! I always feel like these gifts are much more personal because you get the experience and memories as well, which money truly cannot buy!

Check out www.buyagift.com for experience ideas!

For Children

For boy and girl children, I always aim for the route of something they have never received, seen or even thought of before! I particularly like personalised items that can be personalised with the child’s name, and tend to aim for cute clothes or books, avoiding toys because children always tend to receive a lot of toys at Christmas and you never know what they have already been bought!

www.notonthehighstreet.com is perfect for this!

For Teenagers

This is probably the category I struggle with the most as I tend to go for typical, highstreet gifts for this age range! Usually I visit the Boots 3 for 2 range for teenagers, and it always goes down a treat! Oh, and add sweets, teenagers love these but don’t tend to get them anymore as people think they’re too old for sweets now, but they are not!

For The Middle Aged (Like my dad!)

This definitely tends to send me into gadget shops, such as Red5, to buy novelty items to make them laugh! Depending on the person, films and books are always good ideas too, but make sure it is actually on something they like or that could be really awkward!

For The Elder Males

Aw I love Christmas shopping for my grandad!

Again, this usually involves a trip to www.notonthehighstreet.com for personalised things, such as bottles of alcohol or chocolates!
Thanks for reading,

I hope you enjoyed day 4!

Same time tomorrow,

H X

Blogmas Day One- The Christmas Tag

On the first day of Christmas, H will give to you, a tag about Christmas (yeah that didn’t work as well as I’d hoped!).

HELLO,

I AM SO UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED FOR CHRISTMAS THIS YEAR, ESPECIALLY SEEN AS IT IS MY FIRST EVER BLOGMAS.

So, here we are on Day Number 1,

The Christmas Tag!

1. What is your favourite Christmas film?

This is the hardest question ever for me. I love Christmas. I love films. So Christmas Films are my ideal everything. If I really really really had to choose 1 it would probably be the Grinch, but keep your eyes peeled for My Top Ten Christmas Films coming later on this Blogmas…

2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I don’t really remember. I mean, I live in England and it does often snow, but it always seems to snow either before or after Christmas day. I’m sure there must be a point when it did snow on Christmas day in my life, but I do not remember it, so yes but I have no memories of this..

If it feels like snowing this year it would be greatly appreciated!

3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?

At home/at my grandparents house/ at my dads house/ at my boyfriends house.

Split family problems.

4. What is your favourite Christmas song?

Hmmm… I quite like Fairytale of New York. I also like All I Want For Christmas Is You. I’m not really sure to be honest!

5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Yes. Me and my two brothers always open the presents from each other on Christmas Eve! This always involves new PJs, which is fab because you get to wear them that night ready for the morning, along with other little bits and bobs such as toys for my littlest brother and sweets/dvds/games/clothes/smellies for my older one!

6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner and Blitzen! But do you recall… the most famous reindeer of all? Rudolph the red nose reindeer!

7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?

I always spend Christmas Eve baking, which is the only time of the year I get to make as many gingerbread men, cupcakes, cakes, buns, cookies, rice krispie cakes, rice krispie houses, gingerbread houses, flapjack and pretty much whatever else I feel like, as I want!

8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

Depends! I have a tree in my room which is white with colourful lights and decorations, so that’s always fake. We then have a few small trees dotted around the house which are also fake. The main tree is either real or fake depending on how we feel that year! One year we had this really adorable real tree that was so so so tiny but so so so fat and everyone laughed at it all through the season but we loved it!

9. What is your all-time favourite holiday food/sweet treat?

Baileys hot chocolate! If you haven’t tried it, you must. It is gorgeous!

10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?

Definitely giving! I bloody love Christmas shopping and buying presents for other people. I also love to wrap presents in pretty designs and use my stamps to make my own gift labels. I just like to buy presents for other people.

11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?

This is a really really tough question and I don’t want to offend any of my family or friends that may be reading. To be honest, I love all of the gifts I’ve ever been given but I love it when a gift is really personal to you and the person has really thought about what you like! My auntie and my nan are very good at this! Then my parents tend to ask me what I’d like beforehand and my boyfriend just knows me too well and buys me anything he knows I’ll love, like my Pandora ring!

12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

New York. I would do anything to see the Rockefeller tree and ice skate in central park and do everything else that Buddy does in Elf! Ultimate Christmas destination for me!

13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?

I am definitely a pro. I usually get all of my wrapping paper and ribbon from Wilkinsons which sounds weird but they genuinely do the prettiest wrapping paper and ribbon for the most affordable prices, so I give them a visit every year! My presents always look super pro purely because I enjoy it so put a lot of effort into it.. I’ve even bought people more presents before just so I have more to wrap up!

14. Most memorable Holiday moment?

This is so hard because I like genuinely have too many. I loved that last Christmas my nan bought this cute little cake from M&S just for me because it had penguins on and a penguin inside (I still wanna know how they did that!). I loved the thought, and the cake, but I mostly loved how happy it had made her! It really was adorable!

15. What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I don’t think I ever really did or have.. Like obviously I do know and my parents have told me, but I like to still believe in Santa at heart.

16. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?

I always give it a good go but I’ve never properly stuck to one.. I get bored.

17. What makes the holidays special for you?

Definitely just spending time with my family and having everyone together. It doesn’t happen often, so when it does it’s really special as I miss my family every single day.

Feel free to do your own Christmas tag in the comments, on your own blog, or maybe even on your youtube channel! Leave me the links below, I’d love to read them!

Lots of Christmas love,

H

Autumn Favourites

*starts singing ‘it’s the most wonderful time of the year’*

Hellooooo there!

IT’S MY FAVOURITE TIME OF THE YEAR… AUTUMN!! It’s the time of great fashion, beautiful oranges, toffee apples, cute scarves and berry lips and I am so excited to be doing my second, ever, favourites on my blog! Whilst I know it isn’t the end of Autumn yet, as I do my favourites seasonally, I like to publish them around the middle of the season so that they’re still relevant and people can still go out and buy them for the remainder of the season.

Let’s begin..

First of all, I have been loving The Flawless Eyeshadow Palette by Make up Revolution!

Although I did also love this in Summer, the copper/bronze/gold tones in the middle of the palette just scream Autumn to me, so I’ve been so excited to be able to experiment with those a bit more this season!

Another make up product that I have been loving is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams! These are a Matte, liquid lipstick, but the colour isn’t too bold and they are quite moisturising on the lips, as well as pretty long lasting! I have been wearing these every day since I got them, I honestly couldn’t love them more!

Onto underwear…

I recently discovered a company online called ElliceLydia. This is only a small company, but they hand make the PRETTIEST underwear in a huge variety of sizes, up to cup size GG! So this means that even women with bigger busts can have pretty underwear, it’s so amazing and I’m so glad I found them!

I have also been really loving the TV Show Victoria at the moment! It’s on ITV on Sundays at 9pm and, although I do believe that the last episode is due to air tonight, you can watch all of the episodes on the ITV Hub! This is an 8 part series all about the life of Queen Victoria and, honestly, it is fascinating! She was a right little fire cracker and I love her and this series, and Jenna Coleman is as amazing as always!

In terms of fashion, Matalan actually have a great range in at the moment! I picked up a beautiful burnt orange scarf and a very Autumnal jumper from there the other week and I’ve been loving them!

Everything 5 Pounds have also killed it this Autumn! I’ve been in love with this coat (featured in my Look Book) for those cold mornings, and I also ordered a soft pink turtle neck from there the other day which is amazing quality, so soft and so snuggly!

I’ve also been very into the brand new Rhubarb Crumble candle by Yankee Candle, it smells like baking and sweets and it just makes me oh so happy! I reviewed the 4 new Yankee Candle Harvest Time Collection candles in an earlier blog post if you fancy a read!

And that’s about it for this season!

I hope you enjoyed reading, let me know in the comments what you’ve been loving so far this Autumn!

Love,

What to do if Results Day doesn’t quite go your way…

Hey there!

As I’m sure some of you are, I am very very worried for results day this year! My results day is actually tomorrow (cry) as I’ve done my A Levels this year but GCSE results are also a week tomorrow, so I thought that this post would be relevant for quite a few people!

Ok so the first thing to remember is that any results, whether they are GCSE or A Level, are not the be all and end all of your life. They do matter, the amount of which they matter depends on what you want to do in the future, but they are not everything. Stay calm and try to enjoy them, take your grades as feedback on your performance, exams can always be resat no matter what level you’re at.

Don’t get worked up the night before. Honestly, the worst thing you can do is cry and stress and toss and turn all night the night before, I’ve done it. Try and sleep so that you can get up early and get ready to collect your results feeling as revived and calm as possible, a good mindset is needed in order to prepare yourself.

Have a rough plan of what to do if it all goes wrong. I know people might tell you to be hopeful and not to think of the worst, but if it all really does come crashing down then the last thing that you want is to be an emotional mess with no back-up plan. Plan just in case, this always makes me feel so much better!

Channel your energy by doing something productive and occupy your mind the day before. As I’ve said, you want to get as much sleep as possible the night before. So in the day, tire yourself out! Plan to do something with family or friends to occupy your mind and keep you calm!

Do things that make you feel better. I’m not gonna lie, I have a pre-exam results day ritual which involves a warm bath, a good film and my worry stone (works for me).

Take someone with you to collect your results. Even if you don’t want them to come inside with you, have them on standby or waiting outside so that you have somebody to go to if it goes wrong, that way you won’t be alone if you’re upset.

Open your results in a quiet corner alone, so that you don’t hear anyone else’s or get hounded to tell other people yours. This has happened to me a few times and, whilst I’ve not been upset, it’s still highly annoying and would be even worse if you are upset!

If you are upset or worried at any point as to what to do next, speak to a teacher you trust! Chances are the teachers at your results day will all be really supportive and many of them dedicate the full day to students, meaning you can arrange to have a one-on-one chat with them that day if you’re unsure as to what to do next!

Finally, just stay calm. This year will mark my 6th results day in 5 years and, if there’s anything I’ve learnt it’s that results are unpredictable. Some of the exams that I’ve felt went the worst have ended up being my best results and vice-versa, you really cannot call it!

Depending on how my results go, I may be slightly vacant from social media tomorrow! So I’d just like to take this opportunity to say a final good luck, I hope you all get what you wanted and are super happy!

Love,

H x

What I Have Learnt From Blogging For Two Months

So, yesterday was the 2 month anniversary of my blog, I can’t believe how fast the time has passed! And, whilst I know I’m hardly a huge influence, I am proud of all I have learnt these last two months. So, I decided to document this for myself, fellow new bloggers, people thinking of starting a blog or even more established bloggers who want to reminisce!

Twitter is your most valuable tool

Twitter has 100% been of the greatest value to me over the last two months! As well as helping in promoting your blog, Twitter also allows you to connect with other bloggers and brands, which really helps you to build up a community of useful people and new friends!

Twitter blogger chats exist

I didn’t know this. These last two months I have absolutely loved getting involved in blogger chats where possible and really love the tips and advice I have gained.

PR opportunities also exist

Although I’ve only been blogging for two months, I have had one successful PR opportunity and been asked by 2 other companies, which haven’t really been followed up but oh well! I cannot believe that brands are already interested in what I am doing but I couldn’t be more grateful!

Blog photos are a pain in the arse

My least favourite thing about blogging at the moment has to be the photography. I have been having an absolute nightmare trying to take cool pictures on my iPhone and I have had oh so many problems with photographs not showing up for people when they actually visit my blog. Photographs just haven’t been my strong point so far.

But writing blog posts is so quick and easy when you are inspired!

I try never to churn out a blog when I’m not in the mood. Instead, I schedule and draft posts when I do feel like it! That way I always feel like my blog content is inspired and actually worth reading, rather than just there because I needed to post something new.

It’s ok to schedule tweets

Part of being a blogger, inevitably, is being incredibly active on social media! Whilst I do try to do this as often as possible, I realise that sometimes there are days where being incredibly active, or even active at all, is simply not possible! At first, I used to feel bad about scheduling tweets as I felt like I was lying to my followers. However, I’m ok with this now. If I’m busy, I like to schedule tweets to go up throughout the day about what I’m doing and any new posts ect. There is no reason to feel bad or guilty for that, if anything it shows you care about being active for your followers!

Blogging outside isn’t nearly as easy, or glamorous, as it sounds

Laptops overheat. Laptops die. Laptop screens are reflective. Just really ain’t so easy.

Your Blog doesn’t have to be perfect

Everyone starts somewhere. So don’t feel bad if someone with 4,000 followers seems to have better posts or photography than you, they started somewhere too!

As always, thank you so much for reading! I am so grateful for the opportunities and friends that blogging has already brought me and cannot wait to continue to make exciting content for you!

Love,

H X
