Blogmas 2017 Day 12: Cocktail Making With Friction Free Shaving!*

Hello, hello, hello!

If you follow me on social media, you will probably know that I recently spent the evening at the Alchemist in Birmingham with Friction Free Shaving, as well as some amazing bloggers. We had a lovely evening learning how to make cocktails, chatting and taking plenty of photos, so here’s a little rundown of the night, including a review of the goody bag given to us at the end!

The Venue

The setting was perfect for an intimate night. The small group of bloggers made the atmosphere really lovely, as you could chat to absolutely everyone, including the brand! The Alchemist was the perfect setting, and Caleb (our cocktail teacher for the evening) also made the experience very pleasant, even if many of us struggled to count to three when it comes to vodka- oops! Melissa and Amber (the FFS PR team) were so welcoming and friendly all night, and they were also open to giving pointers and answering any questions we had! It was really nice to go to such an intimate, personal event where everyone could get to know each other.

The Cocktails

Hmmmm… When Caleb made us cocktails, they were lovely. When I made them? Not so much! I didn’t actually realise how difficult cocktail making is, and I couldn’t imagine having to make so many of them in an evening- your hands get so cold! It was a really fun experience though, and everyone at the event had a little giggle!

My turn! Photos taken by the lovely Abbey!

Some of the cocktails changed colour, smoked, it was amazing- just like being in a real laboratory!

The Goody Bag

FFS were very generous in their goody bag indeed, as we each received a FFS gift box. These are currently on their website for £25, and would make the perfect Christmas gift! Inside we have a gorgeous, vegan razor (weighted for an easier shave) in either rose gold (Rose) or silver chrome (Silvia) as well as four blades, a blade cover and a little suction hook to hold your razor handle. Then we have three more products- two of which are brand new! The shave cream has been around for a while and has even won awards, and it smells absolutely beautiful! And the two new additions are the pre-shave scrub, and post-shave balm. This means that in one box you have eveeeerything you could possibly need for the perfect 3 step shaving process, and for only £25! All of these products are cruelty free, although the scrub and the balm are currently awaiting their official CF badge as they are BRAND NEW! This would be the perfect gift for someone else, or even for yourself, this Christmas.

I absolutely love the Rose razor from Friction Free Shaving, and have actually done a full review before which you can read HERE. However, I have not tried the shaving cream, scrub or balm, so I was very excited to give these a test!

I found that using all three products together left me feeling the smooooothest I ever have in my life.. like a dolphin! 🐬🐬🐬 I knew I would love the scrub, as love exfoliating, and I’ve always found that a good exfoliation pre-shaving makes my skin so much smoother and leads to less ingrowing hairs. The scent of this scrub is absolutely lovely, and it’s gentle enough to be used on your more delicate areas, such as under arms, whilst still exfoliating.

The shave cream was a dream (that rhymed, haha!). I have always wanted to use a shave cream, but due to my aloe vera allergy, I haven’t really found one that works. So, I often resort to conditioner, but this leaves me feeling greasy and not too great! This cream worked perfectly to add smoothness to my legs, as well as not leaving them feeling greasy, I am VERY impressed for sure!

And, last but not least in this three-step process, it’s the post shave balm! I. LOVE. THIS. PRODUCT. I hate moisturisers, there, I said it. I find them too heavy for my skin, and they never seem to fully absorb and leave me feeling sticky and icky. I was a little worried about this product for that exact reason, as although it is a lot thinner than your usual moisturiser, it seemed to apply in a similar manner. But, after around 30 seconds, I realised I had it completely wrong. This product soaked into my skin SO quickly, and didn’t leave that horrible sticky feeling at all! This is genuinely perfect for me, and now my legs smell amazing and are super smooth too! I’m not even joking, they were still smooth 24 hours later, I was amazed!

The only criticism I have for FFS is that they’re draining my bank balance, as I’m now for sure going to have to add the scrub, cream and balm to my subscription!

So there we have it! Thank you so much to FFS for inviting me to such a wonderful event, and for the lovely goody bag! If you’d like to get your very own FFS gift box, you can do HERE. You can also get 25% off of your first month’s subscription with code ‘J2FCO7’ or by clicking HERE!**

Thank you for reading!

Blogmas 2017 Day 3: My New Holy Grail: Essentialle Skin Care Review*

So, a few weeks ago I got a super exciting invite to an event in London to celebrate the launch of Essentialle skin care. Unfortunately, I had uni that day, and I definitely don’t live close enough to London to pop down for a spot of brekkie, so I had to decline. However, their lovely team were nice enough to send me some ‘samples’ instead! I say ‘samples’, because they actually sent me TWO full-sized products, which was very bloody generous of them indeed!

Anyway, contextual information covered, I’ll actually begin my review now…

The Brand

Essentialle were a brand that appealed to me from the get-go because of their company’s moral values. They are completely cruelty free, have a great purity about their products (using only natural and organic ingredients), and they also ship for free world wide, which is pretty incredible!
The Trial

So, like I said, I was sent two full-sized products to try. These were the ‘Revival Nectar’ nourishing face oil, and the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ re-balancing face oil. Now, I’ll be honest, never in my life have I used a face oil. I have combination to dry skin, and using an oil has always seemed a little alien to me as I couldn’t understand how it would help my skin, rather than break me out. So Essentialle, you’ve definitely taken my face-oil virginity.

I decided to trial the ‘Revival Nectar’ which claims to have restorative qualities, for renewal of dry and lack-lustre skin. Like I said above, I have combination to dry skin, so this seemed like the best fit for me. Zack (my fiancé) trialled the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ oil for me, as this claims to be for oily, problem skin. We’ve both been using these products daily after our normal skin care routines, in order to give them a fair test.

The Packaging

The products arrived in an adorable package (I’m a sucker for good packaging) and the first thing I noticed was that they were both in glass bottles. This really took me by surprise, I’m not sure why, but I actually really like this. As these products retail within the region of £62-£70, this packaging definitely added to the luxurious feel of a definite luxury skin care brand.

First Impressions

For the ‘Revival Nectar’, my first impressions were definitely the amazing smell of the product. It genuinely smells like the inside of a lush shop, and it gives me great enjoyment to slather it all over my face. I also liked taking the time to work and massage the product properly into my face. This is something that I am not used to doing, but I found it really relaxing and it was really nice to take a little time out of my daily routine just to focus on massaging my face. The product absorbed quickly, and Zack commented that my face smelt nice when I got into bed, WIN.

For the ‘Remedy Multi-Active‘ oil, Zack followed me in massaging it into his skin. He also dabbed it on his problem areas, as advised by the instructions on the bottle. We both remarked that it had a nice scent, although we did prefer the ‘Revival Nectar’ scent. Zack didn’t enjoy the feeling of the oil on his face at first, but it quickly absorbed and off to sleep we went.

The Morning After

Ok, this is going to sound ridiculous because it was way too early to judge at this point, but my skin actually looked incredible. I didn’t notice until I sat down to apply my makeup, but I was genuinely taken aback by my skin. It looked more glowy and healthy than I ever remember, and it actually resembled my skin before I had even begun to use make-up, the change was that different. Although the Remedy Nectar is not for problem skin as such, all of my break outs had also cleared up. I don’t know whether this was because of the product, or if this just happened to happen over night just as I had started using this product, but I was very impressed and I wondered how I had ever gotten by without it!

Zack had a completely different experience with the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ however, and found that it had caused quite a few break outs. However, he admitted himself that we couldn’t judge the products after one application, and noted that sometimes products have to draw out impurities before they can actually improve your skin.

4 Week Review

So, now we get to right now. We have both been using these products daily for 4 weeks now, and here are our final thoughts.

I absolutely love the Remedy Nectar! I genuinely don’t know how I ever lived without it, it’s for sure my new holy grail that I shall be recommending to everyone. It makes my skin look so much clearer and brighter, I just love it!

Zack didn’t get on with the Remedy Multi-Active. However, his skin is used to quite harsh formulas as he uses alooooot of skin care products, so I think this product just isn’t right for him. But, I have been using small amounts of this and dabbing it on my problem areas. It seems to be working pretty well for me, so I can’t personally fault it!

So, there we have it! Quite a mixed review. Thanks so much to Essentialle for sending the products over for this review, I am officially a fan girl of your brand!

Have you ever heard of essentialle skin care? Which product would you like to try? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Work hard? Work Smart! Brain Füd Review!* *INCLUDES DISCOUNT CODE*

I didn’t know what to call this post for a really long time. I wanted to be witty and original, but in all truth, I am just bloody shattered. Student life tends to get pretty intense around this time of year, and that, along with anxiety, has left me feeling worn out and drained. I’ve got work to do, but my brain simply cannot focus, and all I want to do is watch Call The Midwife.

Step forward Brain Füd.

Now, this was really funny actually. Brain Füd contacted me back in September about reviewing their products, and I was very excited! However, with everything that’s going on (as detailed above), I just completely forgot that I was supposed to be receiving these samples from them! They arrived when I was having a really bad day, and it made me feel like it was a sign! So yeah, they really lifted my spirits when they first arrived, now let’s get to the review…

Brain Füd claims to be ‘the smarter energy drink’. By this, it means that it’s like an energy drink, but without all the bad bits. The energy comes from a natural ingredient, Guarana, and everything else in the drink is a vitamin, mineral, fruit juice, or water. One bottle contains the equivalent caffeine to an Americano and there’s no artificial flavours or preservatives, and no sugar! PLUS, they’re suitable for vegans! Amazing.

The founder of Brain Füd, Philip, founded the company after struggling with chronic fatigue due to sickle cell. He wanted to create a natural boost, and a helping hand. How inspiring is that?! I’m definitely excited to see where this company goes in the future!

Brain Füd currently stock three flavours of their natural energy drink; Berry & Coconut, Citrus & Mint, and Pineapple & Ginger. They sent me all three to try in exchange for this review, which was absolutely lovely of them! Before I even tried them, I had to note that I loveeeee the design and artwork on the bottles! Plus, the citrus and mint flavour sounded right up my street…

Berry and Coconut

I tried this one first, and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I’ll be honest, I did like it, but the flavour was a bit of a surprise as first as it’s nothing like I’ve ever tasted before. The berry and coconut flavours do compliment each other though, and it was very refreshing indeed! I also had a huge energy boost after I drank this (I was almost asleep before, yet I managed to stay awake for another 7ish hours after drinking).

Citrus and Mint

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS ONE!! My favourite by far!! If you like mojitos, you will LOVE this flavour. Very refreshing and lovely, this could 100% become my new favourite drink.

Pineapple and Ginger

lFcd7rIaT2Gm6%wT3Xre9Q_thumb_f0bThis one is a nice flavour. The pineapple makes it sweet, and the ginger gives it a little kick! This flavour is perfect for those early mornings when you need an extra little boost. Also ginger is great for sore throats and getting over flu, so perfect for the winter months!

All in all, I really liked these drinks, and would 100% recommend them. Their flavours, whilst different, are refreshing and very different from each other! They also did give me an energy boost, and I really like that they’re much more natural than the sugary, caffeinated energy drinks that come to mind when you think of a typical energy drink. These would be perfect to be sold in the Student Union, and I would buy them for sure!

So, there we have it! Brain Füd drinks retail at £18 for 12, which isn’t bad, even for a struggling student (like me lol). But, they’ve also offered a discount of 25% for my readers until 1st December! To redeem it, just enter ‘LifeThroughTSG’ at the checkout HERE.

Thanks for reading!

Personalised Cakes Through Your Door! Letter Box Cake Review and GIVEAWAY!*

I apologise for the influx of reviews lately, I am trying to squeeze some exciting content in before LifeThroughTSG gets all festive for blogmas!

Anyway, today my blogging dreams came true because….. *drumroll*…..

bakerdays agreed to send me a personalised cake, in exchange for this review!

YES PEOPLE, I got cake in exchange for blogging. BEST. DAY. EVER.

If you follow me on socials, you may know that it was my friend Charlotte’s birthday last week. So, when bakerdays asked if I’d like to try a cake, I thought why not dedicate it to her?! My instructions to the lovely Emma at bakerdays were to make it for Charlotte’s 20th birthday, but that she could be as cheeky as she liked, as she offered to make me a custom design! bakerdays do have a fab range of designs already on their website which you can personalise, but they also have a photo upload option if you’re looking for something really unique. So, let’s see what she came up with….

Cute, right?! To be honest, I think this cake just sums up our friendship perfectly- haha!

Letterbox cakes really are just that. They’re made specifically to fit through the letter box, so they’re perfect for those last minute occasions when you accidentally forget someone’s birthday (oops). They’re also perfect for long distance friendships/relationships.. not seeing them on their birthday? Send them cake! (I know I’d really appreciate that anyway).

The cake arrives in this cute little tin, which I am definitely going to keep. I don’t know what I’m going to put in it yet, but I feel like it’s definitely going to come in handy for cake storage!

It also comes with a little birthday pack including a few balloons, some candles and a party tooter- perfect for a little birthday celebration!

I absolutely just adore this cake from baker days, and it tastes fab too! I’d definitely recommend them if you’re looking to send someone a cake or even just get someone a really nice, personalised cake. As well as the letter box size (£14.99), they also have small party cakes (£27.99), medium cakes (£37.99), and large cakes (£57.99). Flavours range from traditional sponge, to chocolate chip, even to marble cake for any occasion, such as Christmas, holy communion, birthdays, eid, halloween, engagement, new home AND MORE.

And, bakerdays don’t just stop at cakes! They also sell personalised cup cakes, which are really adorable, and they sell personalised balloons. AND they do dairy-free, gluten-free and wheat-free options, how amazing! Essentially, they’re your one-stop-shop for the perfect celebration, for any event!

Now for the MOST exciting part….

The lovely people over at bakerdays have also agreed to run a giveaway with me. Yes, that’s right, you could win your very own FREE PERSONALISED CAKE! Then, maybe it will be your best day ever! Matching Your Fragrance To The Month? Secret Scent Box Review! INCLUDING DISCOUNT CODE*

Hello, hello, hello!

Today I’m going to be telling you all about my new discovery, Secret Scent Box.* This is a monthly subscription box that costs just £15 (with free delivery)! And, for the price you get 3 designer fragrances delivered through your door every 30 days (don’t worry about being in, the box fits through the letter box!).

Secret Scent Box were kind enough to send me their November box ‘for her’ in exchange for a review, so, without furtherado, let’s see what there lay inside…

So, inside the box we have:

  1. Ghost- Girl
  2. Burberry- Touch
  3. Dolce and Gabbana- The One

These are all 3ml each, and they come in these handy little sprays so that you can spray away and smell good all day! They’re also perfect for the hand bag, should you require a little midday touch-up.

I’ll be honest, when I first received the box, I did expect the actual sprays to be much bigger. However, once I sprayed them, I realised that they’re actually all really concentrated, so you only need one or two sprays and you’re good to go! Their website says that the amounts are enough for 30 days with around 4 sprays a day, so that means your fragrance is sorted for the month!

I am usually really picky when it comes to fragrances, but I actually would wear all three of these fragrances. The One by Dolce and Gabbana is my favourite of the three, as it’s top notes include peach and bergamot, two scents which I really like.

Touch by Burberry is definitely more of an evening/night fragrance as it has earthy base tones like cedar wood and oak moss, evoking a much more intimate scent that I would only wear for special occasions.

In contrast, Girl by Ghost is a lot more of a day time fragrance, I would say, as with the fruity scents of pomegranate, pear and raspberry along with the floral notes, it is a very light but lovely scent.

I also really like that a little card is included for each fragrance. These details the top, middle and base notes of each fragrance, as well as a little description. This is a really nice touch!

These fragrances are definitely very suitable to the month of November, and I really love that this is a way of constantly changing up your scent, without having to spend a lotttt of money purchasing 3 designer fragrances every month! I also like the element of surprise, because it means that you get to discover new brands and fragrances constantly.

All of the fragrances are 100% authentic, and are sourced from authentic suppliers. Who wouldn’t love having a different 3 designer fragrances to try every month?! This could also be a fantastic gift idea for a fragrance lover, as it’s a gift that keeps on giving!

If you’d like to purchase a Secret Scent Box, you can get a 15% discount by using code ‘LIFETHROUGHTSG15‘ at the checkout!**

What do you think of this subscription box- yay or nay? Let me know in the comments!

Colgate Max White Expert Toothbrush and Pen REVIEW

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my unboxing from the goody bag I received from the National Wedding Show. Nestled inside was this tooth brush from Colgate and I was super excited! (Yep, I get excited over toothbrushes obviously). \

I’ve actually wanted to try this for a while, but the price put me off. To be honest, I’ve never spent more than £2 on a toothbrush, so £12 was a little steep. But, thanks to the goody bag, I’ve got to try it for free! So, I thought I would write this review to sum up my thoughts, my results, and whether I think this toothbrush is really worth the price.

What You Get

This includes a toothbrush (complete with a tongue cleaning section on the back) and a whitening pen. The whitening pen can be stored in the bottom of the brush which is pretty handy.

First Impressions

Before evening opening the product, I decided to read the back to see what this product boasts. Here, I found that the whitening pen only actually lasts for three weeks. I mean, I tend to change my toothbrush around every 3 months, so having to get a new one for the whitening pen every three weeks is a little bit of an issue for me.

But, nevertheless, I decided to use 2 clicks of the pen twice a day after brushing for three weeks, just like the instructions say.

The Brush

I actually really like the toothbrush. I mean, it is a pretty standard toothbrush to be honest, but it leaves my teeth feeling clean which is obviously the point. I like the little rubber sections as they are kind to my gums, and the tongue cleaning section on the back is pretty good too. But, it’s nothing revolutionary.

The Pen

So, I’m guessing that most of the price is because of this pen. I think the 2 clicks may be a little too much for my teeth, as I always seem to have quite a bit left. The applicator is a rubber-type material, and this freaks me out a bit because it reminds me of the dentist. The flavour of the liquid is slightly minty, not bad at all, and the consistency is quite gloopy. The thing that I don’t like is that you can’t rinse it out. This can make your mouth look and feel a little sticky, so I’d suggest using it 20 minutes or so before you leave the house.

Once used, the pen does make my teeth feel a little weak. But, nothing major and it’s perfectly easy to deal with. In terms of whitening results, the images below demonstrate the progression from when I first started to the end of the three weeks.

Week 1

Week 2

Week 3

As you can see, the light changes a lot between these photos. I apologise for this, but I didn’t want to edit any of the photos to affect the results. I did take these at 9am every Monday morning, but obviously the light does change.

Anyway, disregarding the change in light; I do think that there is some improvement in the colouring of my teeth from using this pen. However, I don’t think that this improvement is enough to merit the price or the effort required, as this is a pretty long process for such a subtle result.

Would I buy this product?

Straight answer? No. Colgate is not cruelty free, and this product is very over priced for the results. I’m going to continue using this until the end of the pen (as I still have a few clicks left) and I will update this post if my opinion changes. But, for now, it’s a no from me.

FFS! Shaving in Style With Friction Free Shaving*

Hello, hello, helloooooo, and welcome back to my blog! Today I have a product review, from a company that I have been LOVING!

FFS (Friction Free Shaving) is a monthly subscription service. Starting at £5 a month, the idea behind the company is that, once a month you will receive a box with 4 razor heads inside, one for each week of the month. This way, you never forget to buy new razor heads, and you can change the head each week, making shaving much more hygienic!

Before this post, I wasn’t actually aware of how often you should change your razor head, so this has definitely opened my eyes in terms of hygiene! You should change it after around 5-7 shaves. Continue reading “FFS! Shaving in Style With Friction Free Shaving*”

Big, Bouncy Blow Dry: CurlME Review

Hello, hello, hello!

So, recently I was sent a brush set from Pro Blo. This set is the CurlME set, and it retails for £35. I was sent this set in exchange for a YouTube video, but I’ve decided to write a review on here to accompany the video!

Ok, so if you know me very well, you will know that I often don’t bother to do anything with my hair. I don’t even dry it, I let it naturally dry. The simple reason for this is that I am essentially rubbish at doing anything with my hair. My mother’s a hairdresser so I always let her do my hair growing up, and it wasn’t until I moved to university that I realised just how helpless I am when it comes to styling. Because of this reason, I didn’t have high hopes for this set, or my ability to use it anyway.

But, I am happy to say, I was completely wrong.

The set includes:

  • 1 Brush Handle
  • 6 Brush Barrels (2 large, 2 medium, 2 small)
  • 6 Clips
  • 1 How To/Safety leaflet
  • 1 Travel Bag

Another initial concern that I had after realising what came in the set, was that 6 barrels would not be enough to my whole head, I was wrong about that too. For reference, I have medium length, thin hair. However, if you do need more barrels, you can order various different sets, and you can even order individual barrels if, for example, there is one barrel size in particular that you are keen on.

In terms of value, I think this set is pretty good. I mean, obviously it depends how often you will use it, but in terms of what you get for the price, I think it’s definitely justified.

I’m not going to go into much detail about how to use the set in this post, as this is included in the video tutorial! But, the idea is basically that you blowdry a section your hair with one of the brush barrels attached to the handle, then you wind it into your hair, release the handle and clip it in, like a roller! You then leave this in your hair until it is completely cool, I leave mine for about 15 minutes. You can watch the full video tutorial of how to use the set HERE.

My hair is pretty hard to curl, I’ll be honest about that. Hairdressers have tried, and failed, to give me curly blow drys, even big curls with a large tong/curling wand, but my hair is tight curls or nothing, and I’d just sort of expected that. Never, in a million years, did I expect to love the results that this set gives me so much!

It’s easy to do, takes me around 25-30 minutes, lasts me three days and gives me salon quality curls that make me feel like a princess, what’s not to like?! Plus, the whole colour scheme of the sets is so on trend, I love the black and pink ombre!

This set has quickly become my ONLY hair care routine! I cannot stop using it, and my technique is improving with every use. I am honestly baffled, I’ve even tried it out on my mother’s hair and she loved it too!

If I could put into words how confident this new-do makes me feel, I would. However, my vocabulary simply isn’t good enough for that, so let the pictures in this post speak for themselves!

So there we have it. An affordable product that’s easy to use and gives a salon quality, oh-so-in-trend, curly blow dry. I think this is it, I think my life is complete.

Have you ever heard of Pro Blo? What’s your favourite hair style at the moment? Would you use a set like this? Let me know in the comments!

Uplifting Prints For A Rainy Day*

Hello there!

Sooooo… if you’ve followed my blog for a long time, you may know just how much I love prints. Like, honestly, I just love a good quote, beautifully written on a piece of card, on my wall. In fact, I’ve always loved a good quote on the wall. Before I discovered what prints were, I used to write out my favourite quotes on bits of paper and stick them on my wall with blu tac (I’m cringing now, but I really did!).

So, when I saw VeryVez advertising a collaboration opportunity on Instagram, I just HAD to apply! And, I’m excited to announce, that I will be working with them on Instagram for the next 3 months!

VeryVez is a small business, ran through etsy, with really uplifting and pretty products! I already cannot wait to order some more of these prints to decorate my new room with!

The first print that I chose was a quote from Snow White. I love Disney but, if I’m honest, I don’t think I could quote Snow White off of the top of my head. However, I absolutely LOVE this quote, as it’s just so happy and inspiring!

This unique frame is from Primark, and I think it suits this quote perfectly. Plus, it looks amazing in my freshly painted and decorated bathroom. I just know that reading this quote every morning will make me feel uplifted, as it’s just so inspiring!

The print itself is exactly the quality that you would expect, and there’s lots of different styles of prints on the VeryVez etsy store, something to suit everyone’s taste!

If you would like to order this, or any other, print from the VeryVez store, you can use my discount code ‘HAYLEY10’ to receive a 10% discount!

Happy shopping!

Do you have prints around your home? What’s your opinion on motivational quotes? Let me know in the comments!

Cooking with ‘One Pound Meals’ by Miguel Barclay!

So today I’ve got a little review of a cook book. I know. It is not like me to review a cook book! But, Zack bought us this a few weeks ago and we have used it every day since! Plus, I asked on Instagram if you would like a review and a few of you said yes, so here we are.

Anyway, ‘One Pound Meals’ is a cook book by Miguel Barclay, who is an Instagram chef, so the photos are bloody lovely! The essential idea behind the book is that each portion of the meal costs £1 or less, so me and Zack could effectively make two meals from the book and have only spent £1 each. The way it works is that a lot of the recipes use similar/the same ingredients therefore there’s no need to spend lots of money on lots of different herbs and spices and ingredients. But this is perfect for us! Mainly because I am a vegetarian and I am pretty fussy, but Zack really loves his food, so sometimes we want to eat at the same time but eat different things but we struggle with portions. However, this book gives the amounts of ingredients for ONE meal! So no having to work out the quantities, which means less maths!

So, yeah, this book is perfect for us which we sort of knew when we bought it, and that was also the reason we bought it. But, obviously we didn’t know what to expect from the actual dishes and recipes themselves. We’ve, between us, probably tried about a third of the recipes in the book now, and I can honestly say they are so delicious! Every single one has tasted amazing.

My favourites so far have been the butternut squash risotto, mushroom gnocchi, chow mien (without the chicken) and the hummus and flat bread! They have all been just so yummy, and I can honestly say they’ve made me look forward to cooking each day.

The recipes are unbelievably easy to follow, and I have absolutely zero cooking experience but even I can say that! All of the steps are simple, and I don’t think any of the recipes have taken me longer than an hour to complete, so pretty quick too!

As well as just the recipes themselves, this book has taught me so many basic kitchen/cooking skills that I lacked. And it has also given me a newfound confidence in the kitchen. For example, I made a flat bread yesterday! Yup, I MADE a flat bread and it was easy as hell but if this book hadn’t prompted me too, I would never have tried as I would have just deemed it too difficult for my limited skills.

I’ve been surprised again and again by what I CAN actually do, and I haven’t looked at a pack of super noodles in weeks!

As I’m more comfortable with the recipes now, I’ve been branching out a little from the book. I’ve also become confident in adjusting the recipes slightly to suit what we currently have in the cupboard, or what we like the most!

I’m now making my own flatbreads, hummus, sauces, and for the first time in my life I am enjoying cooking dinner every night. Also, when I mentioned this book on my Instagram story, Miguel replied (which I did NOT expect at all!) and he was so lovely, so it makes me even happier that I’m enjoying his book so much!

Miguel’s original ‘One Pound Meals’ book is on amazon at the moment for half price (£7.49) which you can buy HERE. It is also available to buy on Asos for £5.50, but these keep selling out very quick! I don’t know when you’ll read this, but as I am writing this, it is actually the publishing day of Miguel’s 2nd book, ‘Fast and Fresh One Pound Meals’! I can’t say whether this is as good as the first yet, as I’ve only ordered it this morning from Amazon, but I’m sure it will be! You can check out the second book HERE.

And, that’s about it for this post! Have you ever heard of Miguel? If not, I’d definitely recommend following him on Instagram as he is so up to date with current trends and he turns them into food, it’s amazing! #MuggyMikePasta

Let me know in the comments if this book sounds interesting, and what your cooking skills are like!

That’s all for now!
