I cannot be the only person that sees coconut oil life ‘hacks’ everywheeeere and, for quite a while now, I’ve wanted to test them out in a ‘myth busters’ style post.
So, I’ve scoured Pinterest and found some hacks that are pretty cool that I thought I would give a go in this post! Btw, I am actually a major coconut oil fan, but I only really using it for cooking instead of vegetable oil.
Higher Nature* were kind enough to gift me a pot of their coconut oil in exchange for this post! Their coconut oil is actually flavour and aroma free, so you get all the benefits of coconut oil, without the taste! Although I do quite like the taste of coconut oil, I can definitely see why there would be some meals that it just doesn’t go with, so this flavour free option is FAB. It’s also Vegan, gluten-free and certified Organic- pretty good! Ok, so let’s put it (and the hacks) to the test….
As I said, I am a major coconut oil fan when it comes to cooking. So, it’s no surprise that I LOVE this hack.
I tried cooking at a high heat for my stir fry, and actually found that this coconut oil, specifically, performs really well for this. Usually I have to turn the heat down to medium around half way through as the oil begins to burn, but this didn’t happen when trialling this oil! Plus, it’s flavour free which works great for my classic garlic and soy stir fry!
I also tried buttering my toast with the oil but, I’ve got to say, this hack isn’t for me! It wasn’t too bad, but I missed the taste of butter a little too much for this to be a permanent replacement hack.
This actually works really well! I simply melted the oil, added a few drops of my favourite moisturising Rosehip oil, and then set in the fridge (using a shot glass as I don’t have a fancy tray, oops!). One shot glass worth was actually the perfect amount for a nice soak, and my skin felt super soft afterwards! Continue reading “Coconut Oil ‘Hacks’; Fraud or Fab? Collaboration with Higher Nature*”
I originally started to write this post in June 2017 whilst I was on holiday in Greece. A fierce debate had broken out amongst the blogging world, and I wanted to have my say. I kept that post in my drafts, and then eventually deleted it, because I decided that my mojito-induced holiday ramblings were not appropriate for the seriousness of this topic. So, let me begin with the intention of this being a pretty serious post, with a bit of my own opinion (and a good old joke) thrown in here and there.
I’ll be honest (and this is really terrible, so judge me all you wish), I had never heard of ‘cruelty free’ before I joined the big wide world of blogging. I knew that animal testing existed (hello, I have seen Legally Blonde 2!) but, in my naivety, I didn’t actually realise that it still happened. To me, it always seemed inhumane and cruel and, also in my naivety, I assumed that others would share my view.
Because of how utterly cruel it seemed to me, I just couldn’t comprehend it still happening, so I believed that it didn’t. And I sidled through my life wearing my hoola bronzer on top of my stay perfect foundation, and didn’t realise that animals had suffered for these products.
It wasn’t that I didn’t care; I didn’t know
Now, I have a few issues that I’d like to discuss regarding this in this post. I’m going to subtitle them with little headings, so feel free to skip to the one that interests you the most or read them all; whatever tickles your fancy.
This is, personally, my biggest issue when it comes to animal testing in the cosmetics industry. Part of the reason why I didn’t even know that it still went on is because brands simply don’t own up to it. For example, this is taken from a brand’s website who I used to really love.
See? Very ambiguous.
Whilst claiming not to test on animals, this brand does admit that it sells their products in China. This means that these products are not cruelty free, because in order to sell cosmetics in China, they must be tested on animals by law.
Where you stand on this is completely at your own discretion but, personally, it makes me a little sad that these companies are claiming to be cruelty free, yet make the choice to sell in China in order to benefit (haha, see what I did?) their own profits. To me personally, if a brand was that committed to animal welfare, they wouldn’t choose to sell their products on the Chinese market because of their animal testing laws. But, ya’no, that’s just my logic and thought-pattern, and you are free to make up your own mind’s completely.
(And it’s a big but)
I don’t think that brands should be allowed to answer these important queries in a wishy-washy format in their FAQs section. I think it should be made much more clear to the consumer, as it just doesn’t seem fair that so many people are unknowingly purchasing goods that are contributing towards the animal testing industry because so many brands try to down play it.
You test on animals? Ok, that’s not very nice, and maybe it might put some consumers off of your products but, to be honest, GOOD! At least maybe then you’ll rethink your testing methods.
Seriously though, this wishy-washy ‘we care about animals’ FAQs thing that these brands are doing has gotta go.
Cruelty Free Influencers
Ok, first thing’s first, I wanna applaud you. You’re doing a grand job. You’re the reason I ever even found out that animal testing still exists. Give yourselves a pat on the back.
(again, a big but)
Some of you are a lil’ aggressive sometimes. And it can get a little intimidating.
There has been SO MANY TIMES that I’ve scrolled down my twitter feed and seen cruelty free influencers who have fab cruelty free content, being a little mean to people that don’t always agree with them. I think we gotta realise that an aggressive approach probably isn’t gonna work.
With Valentine’s Day just one week away, I thought why not create a Valentine’s inspired makeup look? I asked twitter whether they wanted to see this in a video or a post, and I got a mixed response, so I decided to do both!
You can watch me in action creating the look below:
For this look I used:
- NYX Love Contours All Eye and Face Palette
- Wonderland makeup primer* (get 15% off with code ‘Bloglife15’)
- NYX stay matte but not flat Foundation in light beige
- Makeup Revolution Eye Primer
- Lancome teint idole ultra wear in 038
- NYX Sculpt and highlight Duo in Taupe/Ivory
- NYX matte bronzer in medium
- NYX Brow Pomade in shade Brunette
- Makeup Revolution Concealer in C3
- Stila Stay all day liquid lipstick in Bacca
- Ardell Wispies False Lashes
- Rimmel Wonder’fully Real Mascara*
Firstly, you want to prime the face! I used wonderland makeup’s primer because I really like the flawless and poreless finish that it gives me, but you can use absolutely any primer. Then we need to prime our eyes! I used the makeup revolution primer which I would recommend for keeping shadows put because it dries tacky, so the shadow literally sticks to the primer! But like I said in the video, you can just use concealer for this if you don’t have a primer.
Next it’s eyeshadow time! So we are taking the star of the show (the NYX Love Contours All palette) and applying the lightest purple/brown shade to our crease, I like to use a fluffy blending brush from BH cosmetics for this. Next we take the darker purple and blend this on the outer corner of our crease. Finally we take the darkest purple and really concentrate this into the crease, blending out towards the outer corner.
Up next, we need to pack on the gorgeous metallic purple shadow. I use my finger for this as I find that I get a better colour pay off, and then I use the same BH cosmetics brush to blend. Then take a little bit of the silver/purple highlight shade and dab this into your inner corner using your finger to highlight and define!
Taking a smaller brush, we want those darker purple shades that we used earlier. Here I use the brush to carefully underline my eye with these shades, as I find that it makes the look look more finished!
Now onto the base!
First we’re going to conceal using the makeup revolution concealer. I use this mainly under my eyes, and on any problem areas. For blending, I’m using my damp real techniques sponge and dabbing in the product, rather than wiping it in. Then I’m going to use a mix of the NYX and Lancome foundations to get a glowy, dewy finish as well as full coverage. Again, I’m going to dab these in with my real-techniques sponge.
For contour, I’m using the sculpt and highlight duo by NYX, and creating shape and definition in all the areas which I desire. Then I’m going to blend this again using the same sponge, before further defining the contour with the NYX Matte Bronzer.
For highlight, I’m going to take the same iridescent purple shade that I used to highlight the inner corner, and apply this with a morphe angled brush.
Next, I’m going to fill in my brows using the NYX brow pomade and an angled brush. This is really good for sculpting and defining the brows that you already have! Then I’m going to take the lighter brow shade from the Love Contours All palette just to add a little bit of dimension.
Lash time! I’m using the Ardell wispies which are absolutely perfect for a Valentine’s Day look because they’re so long and fluttery! I prep my lashes with the Rimmel Wonder’fully real mascara first, and then apply the wispies!
Finally, I’m going to use the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in shade Bacca on my lips! This is the perfect statement lip for valentines and it really does stay all day, no matter how much kissing takes place ;).
And there we have it! What do you think of my finished look? Let me know in the comments!

Hello, hello, hello!
So I actually wrote one of these posts almost a year ago now, and I feel like a follow up is in order! I loved writing the post, the post got good views, and I’ve got plenty of products that I’ve been influenced to try, so why not?!
Without furtherado, we’ve got a lot of products to get through, so let’s gooooo…
I actually bought this set (Play It Cool) on Boxing Day through a blogger’s affiliate link. It had gone down to £10 in the sale, and for three liquid lipstick minis? That’s not bad! So, I thought why not and took the plunge. And OH. MY. GOD. This is the BEST liquid lipstick that I have ever tried.
I was a little worried that it wouldn’t live up to the hype but, boy, was I wrong! If anything, I think they deserve more hype! I cannot believe that for just £10 (usually £20 which is good anyway!) I got three liquid lipstick minis that are all great colours, with the best formula that I have ever tried.
So, here’s your public service announcement that Stila is a CRUELTY FREE brand and their products are INCREDIBLE and their liquid lipstick is the BEST.
Hello, hello, hello!
Today I’ve got a review of a few products from a brand that is completely new to me, Wonderland Makeup*. Wonderland Makeup asked if they could send me a few of their products over in exchange for this review, and I saw that they are a cruelty free brand who’s products looked fab, so of course I accepted!
The products that they kindly sent over were:
I’m going to do a little review of each of these products individually, but, first thing’s first, I thought that the easiest way to show you a full face of makeup using these products, and my first impressions, would be a quick little video, so you can watch that below!
Ok, so onto the review!
Studio Finish Primer
I’ll be honest, I was a little hesitant about this primer at first as I realised that it contains aloe barbadensis which I often have reactions to. However, I patch tested this product 24 hours before I used it and I found no reaction, so all is good there!
In terms of the actual product, it felt quite silicone which isn’t the best feel, but does great for covering pores and fine lines. My makeup applied well over the top, and I found that it made my foundation blend out really nicely, and my skin felt and looked so smooth! I really liked this product and it’s now a part of my daily makeup bag!
Wanderlust Loose Pigment (shade Paradiso)
I was a little worried about this loose pigment as I haven’t used a loose pigment since I had a neon pink one that I used to wear to parties when I was like 10 (oh, the good old days). However, this one looked absolutely beautiful in the pot, and was super easy to apply! I simply patted it on with a flat eye brush, and then blended out with a little NYX shadow to darken the crease. I was super impressed with how easy this product actually was to use, and, whilst I used it to create a lovely every day look, it could easily by layered (or even used with a wet brush) for a much more intense look!
Lash Thickening Mascara
I was SO excited to receive this mascara because I have been looking for a cruelty free mascara for SO LONG. However, I’ve got to be honest, I was a little underwhelmed. Although the brush on this mascara definitely did grab every single lash, it really didn’t deliver on the thickening that it promised. My lashes were definitely more defined after using it, but I’d say that this is more of a lengthening mascara than a thickening one. That being said, it did do a FAB job of lengthening my lashes, and it is probably the best cruelty free lengthening mascara that I’ve found, I just wish it didn’t promise to be thickening!
The Finished Look
I am SUPER happy with the finished look, how gorgeous is that pigment?! This is definitely a simple, yet elegant, every day look, and I will be for sure using that primer very often!
So, all in all, I am very impressed with wonderland cosmetics! The primer and loose pigment could definitely become one of my makeup bag staples, and the mascara did a really good job at lengthening my lashes. I’d definitely love to try out some more Wonderland Makeup products, their glitters are just calling my name!

Hello, hello, hello!
Today I have got a review that I know A LOT of people were interested in when I originally teased back in December, and it’s finally here!
So, for quite a bit of time now, I have been trying out this deodorant kindly sent to me by the brand (and real life couple) Ben & Anna*. And, I’ll be honest, I was a little worried about how this was going to go for two main reasons. 1- I don’t like roll on deodorants (I’m usually a spray kinda gal) and 2- I have heard so many bad things about other vegan deodorants in the past. But, it’s really difficult to find a cruelty free deodorant brand, and so I decided to give this a good go!
First thing’s first, it smells bloody lovely. The pink grapefruit scent smells so fruity and fresh, I actually couldn’t believe that it’s all from natural origins; it smells like sweets! The design is also super pretty and simple, I love it.
I also love that Ben and Anna are a real-life couple and that the images used in the branding of the product leaflets etc are of them, which gives the company a really authentic and genuine feel!
In terms of the actual deodorant itself, I have no complaints! If it’s cold, the stick can get a little dry, but this is easily remedied by warming in on the radiator for a few minutes! I also like to wet the edge of the stick for easier application!
It does take a little longer to dry than my usual deodorant, but I expected that given that it’s a roll-on! However, the natural ingredient of bicarbonate soda exceeds in keeping my pits dry, so all is good!
The smell is also great. I mean, if you’re running a marathon, you might need a little top up during the day. However, I’ve found that it succeeds in protecting me from stench in my general day-to-day!
The only downfall of this deodorant for me is the price. At £9.95, I do think it is a little pricey! However, given that this is still a relatively small business, and that this product is all natural and cruelty free, I would be willing to pay it. Plus, you get a lot of product in just one stick!
With 6 (gender-neutral) scents all together, ranging from vanilla orchid to nordic timber, there’s one to suit everyone! You can shop their products HERE, visit their site HERE and visit their instagram page HERE!
Would you give this deodorant a try? Let me know in the comments!

So, a few weeks ago I got a super exciting invite to an event in London to celebrate the launch of Essentialle skin care. Unfortunately, I had uni that day, and I definitely don’t live close enough to London to pop down for a spot of brekkie, so I had to decline. However, their lovely team were nice enough to send me some ‘samples’ instead! I say ‘samples’, because they actually sent me TWO full-sized products, which was very bloody generous of them indeed!
Anyway, contextual information covered, I’ll actually begin my review now…
Essentialle were a brand that appealed to me from the get-go because of their company’s moral values. They are completely cruelty free, have a great purity about their products (using only natural and organic ingredients), and they also ship for free world wide, which is pretty incredible!
So, like I said, I was sent two full-sized products to try. These were the ‘Revival Nectar’ nourishing face oil, and the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ re-balancing face oil. Now, I’ll be honest, never in my life have I used a face oil. I have combination to dry skin, and using an oil has always seemed a little alien to me as I couldn’t understand how it would help my skin, rather than break me out. So Essentialle, you’ve definitely taken my face-oil virginity.
I decided to trial the ‘Revival Nectar’ which claims to have restorative qualities, for renewal of dry and lack-lustre skin. Like I said above, I have combination to dry skin, so this seemed like the best fit for me. Zack (my fiancé) trialled the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ oil for me, as this claims to be for oily, problem skin. We’ve both been using these products daily after our normal skin care routines, in order to give them a fair test.
The products arrived in an adorable package (I’m a sucker for good packaging) and the first thing I noticed was that they were both in glass bottles. This really took me by surprise, I’m not sure why, but I actually really like this. As these products retail within the region of £62-£70, this packaging definitely added to the luxurious feel of a definite luxury skin care brand.
For the ‘Revival Nectar’, my first impressions were definitely the amazing smell of the product. It genuinely smells like the inside of a lush shop, and it gives me great enjoyment to slather it all over my face. I also liked taking the time to work and massage the product properly into my face. This is something that I am not used to doing, but I found it really relaxing and it was really nice to take a little time out of my daily routine just to focus on massaging my face. The product absorbed quickly, and Zack commented that my face smelt nice when I got into bed, WIN.
For the ‘Remedy Multi-Active‘ oil, Zack followed me in massaging it into his skin. He also dabbed it on his problem areas, as advised by the instructions on the bottle. We both remarked that it had a nice scent, although we did prefer the ‘Revival Nectar’ scent. Zack didn’t enjoy the feeling of the oil on his face at first, but it quickly absorbed and off to sleep we went.
The Morning After
Ok, this is going to sound ridiculous because it was way too early to judge at this point, but my skin actually looked incredible. I didn’t notice until I sat down to apply my makeup, but I was genuinely taken aback by my skin. It looked more glowy and healthy than I ever remember, and it actually resembled my skin before I had even begun to use make-up, the change was that different. Although the Remedy Nectar is not for problem skin as such, all of my break outs had also cleared up. I don’t know whether this was because of the product, or if this just happened to happen over night just as I had started using this product, but I was very impressed and I wondered how I had ever gotten by without it!
Zack had a completely different experience with the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ however, and found that it had caused quite a few break outs. However, he admitted himself that we couldn’t judge the products after one application, and noted that sometimes products have to draw out impurities before they can actually improve your skin.
4 Week Review
So, now we get to right now. We have both been using these products daily for 4 weeks now, and here are our final thoughts.
I absolutely love the Remedy Nectar! I genuinely don’t know how I ever lived without it, it’s for sure my new holy grail that I shall be recommending to everyone. It makes my skin look so much clearer and brighter, I just love it!
Zack didn’t get on with the Remedy Multi-Active. However, his skin is used to quite harsh formulas as he uses alooooot of skin care products, so I think this product just isn’t right for him. But, I have been using small amounts of this and dabbing it on my problem areas. It seems to be working pretty well for me, so I can’t personally fault it!
So, there we have it! Quite a mixed review. Thanks so much to Essentialle for sending the products over for this review, I am officially a fan girl of your brand!
Have you ever heard of essentialle skin care? Which product would you like to try? Let me know in the comments!
Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Hello, hello, hello!
Today I’m going to be telling you all about my new discovery, Secret Scent Box.* This is a monthly subscription box that costs just £15 (with free delivery)! And, for the price you get 3 designer fragrances delivered through your door every 30 days (don’t worry about being in, the box fits through the letter box!).
Secret Scent Box were kind enough to send me their November box ‘for her’ in exchange for a review, so, without furtherado, let’s see what there lay inside…
So, inside the box we have:
- Ghost- Girl
- Burberry- Touch
- Dolce and Gabbana- The One
These are all 3ml each, and they come in these handy little sprays so that you can spray away and smell good all day! They’re also perfect for the hand bag, should you require a little midday touch-up.
I’ll be honest, when I first received the box, I did expect the actual sprays to be much bigger. However, once I sprayed them, I realised that they’re actually all really concentrated, so you only need one or two sprays and you’re good to go! Their website says that the amounts are enough for 30 days with around 4 sprays a day, so that means your fragrance is sorted for the month!
I am usually really picky when it comes to fragrances, but I actually would wear all three of these fragrances. The One by Dolce and Gabbana is my favourite of the three, as it’s top notes include peach and bergamot, two scents which I really like.
Touch by Burberry is definitely more of an evening/night fragrance as it has earthy base tones like cedar wood and oak moss, evoking a much more intimate scent that I would only wear for special occasions.
In contrast, Girl by Ghost is a lot more of a day time fragrance, I would say, as with the fruity scents of pomegranate, pear and raspberry along with the floral notes, it is a very light but lovely scent.
I also really like that a little card is included for each fragrance. These details the top, middle and base notes of each fragrance, as well as a little description. This is a really nice touch!
These fragrances are definitely very suitable to the month of November, and I really love that this is a way of constantly changing up your scent, without having to spend a lotttt of money purchasing 3 designer fragrances every month! I also like the element of surprise, because it means that you get to discover new brands and fragrances constantly.
All of the fragrances are 100% authentic, and are sourced from authentic suppliers. Who wouldn’t love having a different 3 designer fragrances to try every month?! This could also be a fantastic gift idea for a fragrance lover, as it’s a gift that keeps on giving!
If you’d like to purchase a Secret Scent Box, you can get a 15% discount by using code ‘LIFETHROUGHTSG15‘ at the checkout!**
What do you think of this subscription box- yay or nay? Let me know in the comments!

Hello and welcome back to Blogmas, and to this gift guide for her! Even though I am saying for her, these gifts could be used for a variety of different people, I am just basing the ‘her’ on what I know people in my life (and myself!) would love to receive!
I love, love, LOVE this! It’s such a unique and personalised gift idea, as you can have any special song made. Plus it looks absolutely beautiful, and I don’t think it’s a bad price at all at £30!
I bloody love Ringtons products, they’re delicious, and this gift box of treats is great value for £19.99! Perfect for a biscuit lover!
How gorgeous is this necklace?! And, at only £18.99, it’s super affordable too!
As soon as I saw this mug on a recent press release, I knew that I had to feature it in this post! It’s purrrr-fect for any cat lover (get it?) and funds received through purchases from their shop goes towards helping over 190,000 cats and kittens a year, absolutely lovely right?! This gift is super nice, and the purchase of it does good too!
How adorable is this frame?! It’s perfect for adding some personaisation to any room, and photos would look so cute on this! Very sentimental too if you were to pre-fill it with photos of you and your loved one!
I don’t know why I find this so funny, but I’ve been giggling at this for like 20 mins. I don’t know, it’s £12 fgs, but I feel like I need it somehow. I don’t know…
How perfect is this?! Every literature lover’s dream! And £39 for three months is not bad at all, especially seen as a vintage book is included!
My mouth frigging dropped open when I saw this, A BUBBLE BATH MACHINE!!!! Where has this been all my life?! I don’t know…
Mind the cheesy couple on the front, obviously you personalise the photo with what you like. I really like the idea of it being printed on a wood panel! There’s something unique about it, I like it a lot.
Ok, now THIS is cool. I wonder if I could convince zack that we need one for the wedding?!
This beautiful letter boards are made by a fellow blogger. Although I don’t own one myself (yet) I have heard nothing but rave reviews, and they’re just so pretty….
And there we have it! I hope this has given you some present inspiration.
