Blogmas 2017 Day 3: My New Holy Grail: Essentialle Skin Care Review*

So, a few weeks ago I got a super exciting invite to an event in London to celebrate the launch of Essentialle skin care. Unfortunately, I had uni that day, and I definitely don’t live close enough to London to pop down for a spot of brekkie, so I had to decline. However, their lovely team were nice enough to send me some ‘samples’ instead! I say ‘samples’, because they actually sent me TWO full-sized products, which was very bloody generous of them indeed!

Anyway, contextual information covered, I’ll actually begin my review now…

The Brand

Essentialle were a brand that appealed to me from the get-go because of their company’s moral values. They are completely cruelty free, have a great purity about their products (using only natural and organic ingredients), and they also ship for free world wide, which is pretty incredible!
The Trial

So, like I said, I was sent two full-sized products to try. These were the ‘Revival Nectar’ nourishing face oil, and the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ re-balancing face oil. Now, I’ll be honest, never in my life have I used a face oil. I have combination to dry skin, and using an oil has always seemed a little alien to me as I couldn’t understand how it would help my skin, rather than break me out. So Essentialle, you’ve definitely taken my face-oil virginity.

I decided to trial the ‘Revival Nectar’ which claims to have restorative qualities, for renewal of dry and lack-lustre skin. Like I said above, I have combination to dry skin, so this seemed like the best fit for me. Zack (my fiancé) trialled the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ oil for me, as this claims to be for oily, problem skin. We’ve both been using these products daily after our normal skin care routines, in order to give them a fair test.

The Packaging

The products arrived in an adorable package (I’m a sucker for good packaging) and the first thing I noticed was that they were both in glass bottles. This really took me by surprise, I’m not sure why, but I actually really like this. As these products retail within the region of £62-£70, this packaging definitely added to the luxurious feel of a definite luxury skin care brand.

First Impressions

For the ‘Revival Nectar’, my first impressions were definitely the amazing smell of the product. It genuinely smells like the inside of a lush shop, and it gives me great enjoyment to slather it all over my face. I also liked taking the time to work and massage the product properly into my face. This is something that I am not used to doing, but I found it really relaxing and it was really nice to take a little time out of my daily routine just to focus on massaging my face. The product absorbed quickly, and Zack commented that my face smelt nice when I got into bed, WIN.

For the ‘Remedy Multi-Active‘ oil, Zack followed me in massaging it into his skin. He also dabbed it on his problem areas, as advised by the instructions on the bottle. We both remarked that it had a nice scent, although we did prefer the ‘Revival Nectar’ scent. Zack didn’t enjoy the feeling of the oil on his face at first, but it quickly absorbed and off to sleep we went.

The Morning After

Ok, this is going to sound ridiculous because it was way too early to judge at this point, but my skin actually looked incredible. I didn’t notice until I sat down to apply my makeup, but I was genuinely taken aback by my skin. It looked more glowy and healthy than I ever remember, and it actually resembled my skin before I had even begun to use make-up, the change was that different. Although the Remedy Nectar is not for problem skin as such, all of my break outs had also cleared up. I don’t know whether this was because of the product, or if this just happened to happen over night just as I had started using this product, but I was very impressed and I wondered how I had ever gotten by without it!

Zack had a completely different experience with the ‘Remedy Multi-Active’ however, and found that it had caused quite a few break outs. However, he admitted himself that we couldn’t judge the products after one application, and noted that sometimes products have to draw out impurities before they can actually improve your skin.

4 Week Review

So, now we get to right now. We have both been using these products daily for 4 weeks now, and here are our final thoughts.

I absolutely love the Remedy Nectar! I genuinely don’t know how I ever lived without it, it’s for sure my new holy grail that I shall be recommending to everyone. It makes my skin look so much clearer and brighter, I just love it!

Zack didn’t get on with the Remedy Multi-Active. However, his skin is used to quite harsh formulas as he uses alooooot of skin care products, so I think this product just isn’t right for him. But, I have been using small amounts of this and dabbing it on my problem areas. It seems to be working pretty well for me, so I can’t personally fault it!

So, there we have it! Quite a mixed review. Thanks so much to Essentialle for sending the products over for this review, I am officially a fan girl of your brand!

Have you ever heard of essentialle skin care? Which product would you like to try? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Matching Your Fragrance To The Month? Secret Scent Box Review! INCLUDING DISCOUNT CODE*

Hello, hello, hello!

Today I’m going to be telling you all about my new discovery, Secret Scent Box.* This is a monthly subscription box that costs just £15 (with free delivery)! And, for the price you get 3 designer fragrances delivered through your door every 30 days (don’t worry about being in, the box fits through the letter box!).

Secret Scent Box were kind enough to send me their November box ‘for her’ in exchange for a review, so, without furtherado, let’s see what there lay inside…

So, inside the box we have:

  1. Ghost- Girl
  2. Burberry- Touch
  3. Dolce and Gabbana- The One

These are all 3ml each, and they come in these handy little sprays so that you can spray away and smell good all day! They’re also perfect for the hand bag, should you require a little midday touch-up.

I’ll be honest, when I first received the box, I did expect the actual sprays to be much bigger. However, once I sprayed them, I realised that they’re actually all really concentrated, so you only need one or two sprays and you’re good to go! Their website says that the amounts are enough for 30 days with around 4 sprays a day, so that means your fragrance is sorted for the month!

I am usually really picky when it comes to fragrances, but I actually would wear all three of these fragrances. The One by Dolce and Gabbana is my favourite of the three, as it’s top notes include peach and bergamot, two scents which I really like.

Touch by Burberry is definitely more of an evening/night fragrance as it has earthy base tones like cedar wood and oak moss, evoking a much more intimate scent that I would only wear for special occasions.

In contrast, Girl by Ghost is a lot more of a day time fragrance, I would say, as with the fruity scents of pomegranate, pear and raspberry along with the floral notes, it is a very light but lovely scent.

I also really like that a little card is included for each fragrance. These details the top, middle and base notes of each fragrance, as well as a little description. This is a really nice touch!

These fragrances are definitely very suitable to the month of November, and I really love that this is a way of constantly changing up your scent, without having to spend a lotttt of money purchasing 3 designer fragrances every month! I also like the element of surprise, because it means that you get to discover new brands and fragrances constantly.

All of the fragrances are 100% authentic, and are sourced from authentic suppliers. Who wouldn’t love having a different 3 designer fragrances to try every month?! This could also be a fantastic gift idea for a fragrance lover, as it’s a gift that keeps on giving!

If you’d like to purchase a Secret Scent Box, you can get a 15% discount by using code ‘LIFETHROUGHTSG15‘ at the checkout!**

What do you think of this subscription box- yay or nay? Let me know in the comments!

Colgate Max White Expert Toothbrush and Pen REVIEW

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my unboxing from the goody bag I received from the National Wedding Show. Nestled inside was this tooth brush from Colgate and I was super excited! (Yep, I get excited over toothbrushes obviously). \

I’ve actually wanted to try this for a while, but the price put me off. To be honest, I’ve never spent more than £2 on a toothbrush, so £12 was a little steep. But, thanks to the goody bag, I’ve got to try it for free! So, I thought I would write this review to sum up my thoughts, my results, and whether I think this toothbrush is really worth the price.

What You Get

This includes a toothbrush (complete with a tongue cleaning section on the back) and a whitening pen. The whitening pen can be stored in the bottom of the brush which is pretty handy.

First Impressions

Before evening opening the product, I decided to read the back to see what this product boasts. Here, I found that the whitening pen only actually lasts for three weeks. I mean, I tend to change my toothbrush around every 3 months, so having to get a new one for the whitening pen every three weeks is a little bit of an issue for me.

But, nevertheless, I decided to use 2 clicks of the pen twice a day after brushing for three weeks, just like the instructions say.

The Brush

I actually really like the toothbrush. I mean, it is a pretty standard toothbrush to be honest, but it leaves my teeth feeling clean which is obviously the point. I like the little rubber sections as they are kind to my gums, and the tongue cleaning section on the back is pretty good too. But, it’s nothing revolutionary.

The Pen

So, I’m guessing that most of the price is because of this pen. I think the 2 clicks may be a little too much for my teeth, as I always seem to have quite a bit left. The applicator is a rubber-type material, and this freaks me out a bit because it reminds me of the dentist. The flavour of the liquid is slightly minty, not bad at all, and the consistency is quite gloopy. The thing that I don’t like is that you can’t rinse it out. This can make your mouth look and feel a little sticky, so I’d suggest using it 20 minutes or so before you leave the house.

Once used, the pen does make my teeth feel a little weak. But, nothing major and it’s perfectly easy to deal with. In terms of whitening results, the images below demonstrate the progression from when I first started to the end of the three weeks.

Week 1

Week 2

Week 3

As you can see, the light changes a lot between these photos. I apologise for this, but I didn’t want to edit any of the photos to affect the results. I did take these at 9am every Monday morning, but obviously the light does change.

Anyway, disregarding the change in light; I do think that there is some improvement in the colouring of my teeth from using this pen. However, I don’t think that this improvement is enough to merit the price or the effort required, as this is a pretty long process for such a subtle result.

Would I buy this product?

Straight answer? No. Colgate is not cruelty free, and this product is very over priced for the results. I’m going to continue using this until the end of the pen (as I still have a few clicks left) and I will update this post if my opinion changes. But, for now, it’s a no from me.

Have you tried this product? Let me know in the comments!

Autumn Lip Picks!

Autumn is the season for a good lip. I feel like, when you’re wearing a bold lip colour, you really just look like you’ve got your sh*t together. Whether it be a classic berry, old Hollywood red, a sparkly orange, or a cool toned purple, autumn is the perfect season to experiment with bold lip colours so here are my 5 favourites for the season!

NYX Lip Lingerie (01 HONEYMOON)

This is a recent purchase of mine and I just BLOODY love it! NYX do the best lipsticks and I am obsessed with them (as you will see in this post oops!). It’s brown in undertone but not too dark for my skin tone. I just think it’s perfect for sprucing up an every day makeup look (and making it look like you’ve made lots of effort!).

FFS! Shaving in Style With Friction Free Shaving*

Hello, hello, helloooooo, and welcome back to my blog! Today I have a product review, from a company that I have been LOVING!

FFS (Friction Free Shaving) is a monthly subscription service. Starting at £5 a month, the idea behind the company is that, once a month you will receive a box with 4 razor heads inside, one for each week of the month. This way, you never forget to buy new razor heads, and you can change the head each week, making shaving much more hygienic!

Before this post, I wasn’t actually aware of how often you should change your razor head, so this has definitely opened my eyes in terms of hygiene! You should change it after around 5-7 shaves. Continue reading “FFS! Shaving in Style With Friction Free Shaving*”

Big, Bouncy Blow Dry: CurlME Review

Hello, hello, hello!

So, recently I was sent a brush set from Pro Blo. This set is the CurlME set, and it retails for £35. I was sent this set in exchange for a YouTube video, but I’ve decided to write a review on here to accompany the video!

Ok, so if you know me very well, you will know that I often don’t bother to do anything with my hair. I don’t even dry it, I let it naturally dry. The simple reason for this is that I am essentially rubbish at doing anything with my hair. My mother’s a hairdresser so I always let her do my hair growing up, and it wasn’t until I moved to university that I realised just how helpless I am when it comes to styling. Because of this reason, I didn’t have high hopes for this set, or my ability to use it anyway.

But, I am happy to say, I was completely wrong.

The set includes:

  • 1 Brush Handle
  • 6 Brush Barrels (2 large, 2 medium, 2 small)
  • 6 Clips
  • 1 How To/Safety leaflet
  • 1 Travel Bag

Another initial concern that I had after realising what came in the set, was that 6 barrels would not be enough to my whole head, I was wrong about that too. For reference, I have medium length, thin hair. However, if you do need more barrels, you can order various different sets, and you can even order individual barrels if, for example, there is one barrel size in particular that you are keen on.

In terms of value, I think this set is pretty good. I mean, obviously it depends how often you will use it, but in terms of what you get for the price, I think it’s definitely justified.

I’m not going to go into much detail about how to use the set in this post, as this is included in the video tutorial! But, the idea is basically that you blowdry a section your hair with one of the brush barrels attached to the handle, then you wind it into your hair, release the handle and clip it in, like a roller! You then leave this in your hair until it is completely cool, I leave mine for about 15 minutes. You can watch the full video tutorial of how to use the set HERE.

My hair is pretty hard to curl, I’ll be honest about that. Hairdressers have tried, and failed, to give me curly blow drys, even big curls with a large tong/curling wand, but my hair is tight curls or nothing, and I’d just sort of expected that. Never, in a million years, did I expect to love the results that this set gives me so much!

It’s easy to do, takes me around 25-30 minutes, lasts me three days and gives me salon quality curls that make me feel like a princess, what’s not to like?! Plus, the whole colour scheme of the sets is so on trend, I love the black and pink ombre!

This set has quickly become my ONLY hair care routine! I cannot stop using it, and my technique is improving with every use. I am honestly baffled, I’ve even tried it out on my mother’s hair and she loved it too!

If I could put into words how confident this new-do makes me feel, I would. However, my vocabulary simply isn’t good enough for that, so let the pictures in this post speak for themselves!

So there we have it. An affordable product that’s easy to use and gives a salon quality, oh-so-in-trend, curly blow dry. I think this is it, I think my life is complete.

Have you ever heard of Pro Blo? What’s your favourite hair style at the moment? Would you use a set like this? Let me know in the comments!

Favourites ✨

It’s that time of the season where I share everything I’ve been loving so far! And this post does not disappoint, I’ve been loving so many different things this season!

Let’s get straight to it because there’s quite a bit to get through…

Lancôme Juicy Shakers

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT. A Lip oil with a slight pigment, these are so nourishing and look great too! My lips have seriously been thanking me for using these and I don’t think I’ll be forgetting about these any time soon.

Fab Little Bag*

As well as being super cute, these are super functional. These are little biogradable bags which make tampon disposal a little easier. I love using these when I visit my friends houses as I can dispose of my tampon without being embarrassed and without flushing it down the loo! Fab invention.

NYX Doll Eye Mascara

This mascara is just gorgeous and it’s quickly becoming my favourite. It’s so affordable and so much better than ones that I’ve tried of a higher price bracket. I’m in love with it!

Lancôme La Vie Est Belle body lotion

This smells AMAZING! Plus it has a little shimmer so, as well as the normal nourishing that body lotions do, this makes me shimmery and smell amazing too! 10/10 from me!

Elegant Touch Nails*

So I recently became an elegant touch insider which is just so amazing and I am really enjoying being on the programme! They’ve sent me 4 different sets of nails this month and above are my favourite 2! I love these nails because they’re a fraction of the price of acrylics, you can change them up more often and they don’t ruin your nails nowhere near as much as actual acrylics!
Micheal Kors Watch

I got this watch from my boyfriend for Christmas and, let’s be honest I’m not a massive watch fan, but I love this. With a rose gold and crystal theme this watch simply couldn’t be more perfect, and I’m so happy I received it!

Marc Jacobs- Honey

I recently rediscovered my love for this perfume after receiving it for Christmas! Marc Jacobs’ perfumes always come in the cutest packaging, but the smell of this one just screams spring to me!

Benefit They’re Real! Double the Lip

A fairly new product from benefit, but one I have been really enjoying lately! This is basically a lipstick and lip liner in one and it’s perfect for when you want a quick lip look, or if you’re rubbish at applying lip liner like me!

Models Own Polishes- Chrome and Glitter!

I’ve been loving these polishes for so long now, every time I go to paint my nails i’m enticed by the chromes! And they look oh so gorgeous with the glitter layered over!

NYX Lingerie (shade embellishment)

This lip product was all over my Insta feed not too long ago and I was dying to try it but every time I went to buy it it had sold out. I eventually got my hands on it and I can definitely say it was worth the wait! Plus this shade is super gorgeous 😍.

Light-up mirror/jewellery box from Debenhams

I received this for Christmas and I just absolutely adore it! It’s just so pretty and handy and there’s lots of room to store my makeup too. So in love with this product!
And that’s all for now! I mean, I realise I’m saying that’s all but this is like my longest favourites post ever, oops. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading!

Bloggers made me buy it!

Hello there!

So this is a post I’ve seen circulating a lot recently and it is basically a post dedicated to products I was influenced to buy by bloggers and my opinions of them. I have quite a few to get through, so I’m not gonna ramble here too much, let’s just get straight into it.

Kylie Jenner Lip Kit

I tried so hard so many times to get this lip kit because I saw so many posts about how good they were etc. However, to be completely 100% honest, I am massively underwhelmed. I got the shade Kourt K which I love, but it’s hard to apply, it’s sticky and I find it actually crumbles off of my lips and just leaves them looking stained. I’m not sure if I got a bad batch, but my lip kit isn’t great and isn’t worth the money or effort that it took.

Becca X Jacylin Hill Champagne Pop

I read about this and product SO MANY TIMES on beauty blogs and I just had to try it. THIS IS THE BEST HIGHLIGHTER I HAVE EVER USED. IT GIVES ME THE MOST AMAZING NATURAL GLOW. This is my fav product ever right now, I thoroughly recommend it!
Makeup Revolution Flawless Palette

I bought this palette simply because of the reviews I’d read on it and it didn’t let me down. For the price, this product is great! The shades are beautiful, the pigment is good, it’s very blendable and buildable and there’s a great choice of colours! 10/10 from me!

Benefit Gimme Brow

This product haunted my Instagram for a fair few weeks when it first came out. I was so excited to try it because I’d read nothing but good reviews, but to be honest it’s pretty rubbish. The colour, supposedly for brunettes, is pretty grey on my eyebrows. It also only really works where you’ve got hairs, so my eyebrows looked awfully full in some places and awfully gappy in others. After wearing this for a few hours, it sort of started to crack on my eyebrows and almost peel off. By the end of the day, it looked dreadful. I’m sorry benefit, I’m usually a fan, but this product did not impress me whatsoever and I won’t be wearing it again!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

I’d never even heard of the brand NYX before I started blogging so this buy was definitely influenced by bloggers. I love this product, it’s so inexpensive compared to the Kylie Lip Kits and I prefer everything about it, even if I do have to top it up a few times during the night, the formula makes it so easy to apply and doesn’t dry out the lips!

Laura Geller Palette

I see so much hype about the brand Laura Geller that I just had to try their products. I chose the ‘best of’ palette to sample a little bit of everything and I couldn’t be happier with it. The bronze and blush shades are beautiful, although the highlighter is a little too subtle for me. What makes this palette is the eye shadows though, I adore them so much so it’s a 9/10 from me!

Morphe Palette

If you haven’t seen the blogger/YouTuber hype over morphe palettes you must be living under a rock! They are all my instagram feed saw for a while and I can definitely see why! The pigment of these shadows is AMAZING, like INCREDIBLE. It’s definitely becoming my favourite palette and I cannot wait to order another one!

And that’s all from me today! I hope you enjoyed this post and I’ll see you soon!
