The Wedding Diaries; The First 7 Steps Of Planning!

Okay, so you’ve got a ring on the finger, the planning is about to commence.. but where do you start?! To be honest, I had absolutely no idea and I have definitely LEARNT from the experience- so I thought I’d share that info with you in this post!

1. Establish a realistic budget

You might be rolling your eyes and mouthing obviously at your screen, but this is super important. Your budget NEEDS to be REALISTIC! It’s okay to have an aspirational budget too, but, for now, you need to make it realistic.

2. Discuss any help you may be getting

Family and friends want to help out a little with the costs? That’s sweet! But that kind of thing needs to be established at the beginning so that you know your budget and what you have to spend.

3. Discuss what you’re willing to splurge on

These should be the most important parts of the day to you and your spouse, as they’re the things that you’re willing to spend the most on. For us, this was a good photographer who we really liked, the venue and some fun little extras! We’re not too fussed about fancy flowers or an amazing cake (as long as it tastes good!) so they are areas that we don’t want to spend as much on!

4. Write a preliminary guest list

This doesn’t have to be perfect, but you’ll need rough numbers for when you’re looking around the venues! I thought ours would only be about 50 people long, but it’s 80 and we could easily pop a few more on the end of that- so make sure you know a few rough numbers!

5. Establish where you want the wedding to take place

Most people tend to get married in their local area, but some venture a little further. We’ve decided to venture to the gorgeous city of Bath for ours. But, as this is about a 4 hour drive from where we live, this decision impacted our guest lists etc, as we knew that we couldn’t really have separate day and night time guests, so we have got a stricter guest list of guests for the whole day!

6. Start doing research

This is the fun bit! Pinterest boards galoreeeeee.

7. Start finding out quotes

And write these down as estimates for each thing! Again, this is helpful in budgeting and will really help you to see where you can save and where you can splurge.
