Ahhhhh… productivity, we meet again.
Don’t we all just wish that the productivity fairy would visit us in the night and check off our to-do lists?
I’m not a fan of this society that seems to suggest that we all need to be Uber-productive 24/7, I like to chill too, but there comes a time when productivity is a must, and you just gotta do it.
I’ve been there, myself, recently, as I’ve been juggling exams and revision and deadlines with work and driving lessons, and it’s been stressful AF. But, it has taught me a lot about productivity and given me some tips that work for me, so hopefully they shall work for you too!
Wind Down Before Bed
I cannot even tell you how much of a difference this makes.
If you’re going to bed anxious about what you’ve got to do tomorrow, or still thinking about what you’ve done during the day, your sleep will just be awful. Wind down, read a book, have a chat, watch TV, whatever it takes, for at least an hour before drifting off.
Open Your Curtains Before Your Social Media
I am so guilty of this.
I often open my social media and scroll for an hour or so, and then I feel grouchy when I do eventually have to get up. Opening your curtains as soon as the alarm goes off really helps you feel better about the day. It’s like ripping off a plaster, you’ve just got to do it and, once it’s done, it will feel much better.
Seriously, even if it’s just a short walk somewhere nearby. Staying inside all of the time can make you feel pretty down, so even just a short walk out of the house can make you feel much better!
You need that fuel to get you to lunch time! Feeling hungry is just a distraction that no one needs. Eat something nice for breakfast and then begin your day.
(With Water!). Caffeinated/sugary drinks may give you a rush, but you soon crash and that can really hinder your productivity!
Have Regular Breaks
and actually chill out! Breaks are needed to refocus your mind and give yourself time to recuperate, and they are just as important as work; trust me!
Know Your Own Strengths And Weaknesses
and use these to your advantage! Remember, working smart is better than working hard.
Plan Your Day
Planning my day out hour-by-hour and even scheduling in things like food breaks and shower breaks really, really, helps me to focus my time. Plus, ticking off each hour as it goes by and I complete the task makes me feel super-productive, which inspires me to continue working! It’s a system that I have found to work really well for me.
As superficial as it sounds, pretty stationery really helps me keep my motivation up! I had the most adorable revision cards this year, and although writing them was a pain in my ass, the prettiness definitely made it more bearable!
Make Yourself Feel Good
This is different for everyone, but it really works. I know some people who work better when they’re at the comfiest in caj clothes, and some people (like me) who work better with a full face of makeup and a nice outfit to make them feel confident. Whatever it is that you need to do to make yourself feel the best possible, it will really help.
What are your top productivity tips? I’d love to know in the comments!
