Should we censor what we say online?

Hello there!

Although you won’t have noticed, as I plan my posts pretty far in advanced, I’ve had to take a little break from blogging recently because I’ve just been in a bad place emotionally and mentally. Although this wasn’t the cause, a lot of what has contributed to this is some of the comments I’ve received online. Specifically on twitter, I’ve found many people who don’t even follow me going out of their way to search for tweets that annoy them just to start arguments. One even went as far as to call me a bully. I can’t even explain what this did to me.

For a while, I began to censor what I said online. I didn’t want to say anything the slightest bit controversial because I was scared of the backlash. And by controversial I mean anything about celebrities at all, I was receiving terrible tweets from a certain celebrities ‘fans’.

But, I didn’t make this blog or my twitter account to censor it. I made it to say what I want to say. I want to be honest and upfront no matter what. I don’t like some celebrities, that’s my opinion and I’m entitled to it. There is a huge difference between saying you dislike someone and ‘bullying’ them. Opinions are opinions. Please stop being incredibly mean to people for having an opinion. Fair enough, speak up, share your opinion, but don’t go out of your way to hurt someone just because you don’t share their likes and dislikes.

There’s a difference between having an opinion and being mean. Being mean would be saying something to purposefully hurt someone, but having an opinion and saying I don’t really like their film/album/song isn’t bullying, it’s nowhere near.

That’s all for now.

Love,

H X
