Five Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Six Hundred Minutes

Sorry ‘Rent!’ lovers, you may have seasons of love stuck in your head for the rest of the day now!

This post is a little bit unusual for me, and maybe a little more meaningful than the product reviews and favourites that I usually post (although I do love writing those!) I am writing this post today, on the first day of 2017, to let you know how many minutes you have this year, 525,600. Of these minutes, 175,200 of them will probably be spent sleeping (providing you have 8 hours a night!) and many of them will be spent doing necessary and humane things, such as showering, cooking, eating and cleaning. I don’t know about you, but when I look at it as 525,600 minutes, it doesn’t seem long at all. It doesn’t seem long enough. But yet, we throw minutes away easily by spending them upset or worried or stressed, we spend them putting off work or scrolling on our phones, and I’m not exempt from this.

However, I now have come to realise that maybe I should spend my minutes on more important things. I should spend a minute admiring the sunset instead of my Twitter feed, or enjoying a moment instead of being obsessed with photographing it. I suppose what I’m trying to say in this post is that, even on the first day of 2017, there already isn’t much left. After today, you’ll only have 524,160 minutes left, don’t waste them on silly little things that you won’t remember when you’re 85, spend them making the memories you will tell people about when they ask about your life.

I suppose that’s it. I wish you all the happiest of New Years and hope you really get to make the most of 2017!

Lots of love,

H X
